Right to request flexible working to be extended to all employees
The Flexible Working Regulations 2014 will come into effect on 30 June 2014.
The new Regulations extend the right to make a request for flexible working to all employee with 26 weeks’ continuous service. Eligibility will no longer depend on the need to care for a child under 17, or 18 if disabled, or other dependents. The procedure for making a request will remain the same. Maximum compensation for failure to comply will be 8 weeks’ pay (currently capped at £464/ week).
Employers should anticipate increased requests for flexible working from across the workforce.
